Description: Florida Atlantic University (Fort Lauderdale area) offers the M.S. degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion (emphasis tracts in Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion and Aging). Competitive (>$11,200 for 12 month graduate teaching assistantships are available for teaching undergraduate labs in exercise physiology, aerobics classes, swimming and First Aid, lecture classes, staff the wellness center, walking and jogging classes.Graduate research assistantships are also available.
Qualifications: Each position has specific criteria; Exercise Physiology Labs-HFI; Aerobics-certification; Swimming- Lifeguard Training/Water Safety Instructor; First Aid-Certified as an Instructor; One hospital assistantship-GPA 3.4, class in or work experience with medical terminology and medical records; Wellness center- HFI or CSCS certification; Walking and jogging classes- UG in exercise physiology; Research GA- UG degree in exercise physiology or Health promotion.

WHERE: The Fitness Center is a program offered through the Department of Recreational Services, Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia. The Fitness Center is located within a 161,000 square foot dedicated recreation facility called the Student Recreation Center.
WHO: Students who have completed undergraduate work in Exercise Science or related areas are encouraged to apply. You must be accepted into the graduate Exercise Science program in the Department of Kinesiology and Health to be considered for a position. Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine or the National Strength and Conditioning Association is preferred but not required.
WHY: The Fitness Center offers excellent opportunities for “hands-on” experiences for graduate students in Exercise Science. Staff members of the Fitness Center serve students, faculty and staff by providing services such as fitness testing (cardio-respiratory assessment, strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, body composition, individual program design), personal training, health promotion activities, and graded exercise testing. Assistance with marketing, creative program design and delivery plus the day-to-day operation of the Fitness Center are also staff responsibilities. Students who receive an assistantship receive an in-state or out-of-state tuition waiver as well as a stipend.
WHAT: Applications are available via the web site for the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University (www.gsu.edu). Once the application is received, a formal interview will be arranged. On-site interviews are conducted from January through April and position offers are made during May. The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Human Performance Laboratory is currently seeking exercise physiology/exercise science graduate and/or undergraduate students to fill a funded internship position (800 hours required from Sep 07 to May 08). The applicant must have completed all undergraduate requirements except internship and/or be a graduate student.The mission of the USAFA Human Performance Lab is to serve USAFA's 27 men's and women's intercollegiate teams and help them win through improved athletic performance. We do this by providing our coaches with more information about their athletes by way of testing, training and education. Our present capabilities include assessments in the areas of upper and lower body anaerobic power (Wingate tests), maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max), body composition (hydrostatic and skinfolds), sports vision training, lactate threshold determination, biomechanical assessment, and running economies with NCAA Division I athletes. Additionally, we have several on-going exercise-science related research projects.
