POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: Assistant Professor (Exercise Physiology) in the Department of Kinesiology (nine month tenure-track position) beginning August, 2008. The Auburn University Department of Kinesiology is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to develop an externally-funded research program in exercise physiology that augments current research in the department.
Qualifications: Required: Enthusiastic, ambitious candidate with earned doctorate in exercise physiology or closely-related life science discipline; a strong publication history and clear potential to attract extramural funding; evidence of mechanistic research in either basic exercise physiology/metabolism/biochemistry or the impact of physical activity on disease; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment, and must be able to communicate effectively in English. Desired: Post-doctoral research experience; evidence of pursuit of innovative research questions in either humans or animal models; evidence of extramural support for research; University teaching experience; and active participation in professional organizations.
Responsibilities: Establish a successful research program in the integrative physiology of exercise, leading to publications in premier refereed journals, presentations in national and international venues, and extramural funding; teach graduate and undergraduate classes in exercise physiology and related topics; recruit, advise, and train students in the M.Ed., M.S., and Ph.D. tracks, including supervision of graduate research; perform professional, university, and community service as appropriate.

WELLNESS PROGRAM
Reports to: Manager, Wellness
MAJOR FUNCTION: Provide district-wide health and wellness assessments, interventions, nutritional and fitness counseling and follow-up for students and employees. Work with individual schools to develop a comprehensive school health program for students to include health/wellness activities and initiatives. Work with district office personnel to secure grant funding and coordinate program evaluation.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: Work with Wellness Manager to assess the health and wellness needs of PCSB employees and students as designed by the Department of Education and the Center for Disease Control. Work collaboratively with local health facilities and agencies to promote health and fitness. Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for employees. Work with individual schools to develop a multi-disciplinary team approach to a Comprehensive School Health Program as designed by the Department of Education and the Center for Disease Control. Research current topics and best practices in promoting healthy lifestyles for Polk County employees and students. Promote and assist with wellness screenings for all employees including coronary risk profile, glucose, mammography, prostate, skin and osteoporosis. Conduct employee fitness assessments, and develop an intervention plan according to the individual’s health status. Provide fitness and nutritional counseling as needed. Coordinate annual health surveys for all employees. Promote medical self-responsibilities and self-care annually to all employee groups. Work closely with district personnel on web page design and video production. Identify and coordinate health related grant funding opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Ability and Skills: Considerable knowledge in the field of corporate health and wellness. Ability to plan, organize, monitor, implement, and evaluate programs. Ability to effectively train and motivate people. Considerable knowledge of exercise and nutritional prescription in wellness programs. Knowledge and/or training in web page design and video production. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills and abilities. Knowledge and/or skills in grant writing.
Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Health, Nutrition, or Exercise Physiology required. Three to five years of wellness experience preferred. Certification through American College of Sports Medicine, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, or International Dance Exercise Association is required. Registered dietitian is preferred. Grant writing skills highly desirable. Training in effective group dynamics and processes.
License or Certification: Licensed dietitian or health related certification.

POSITION: Assistant Professor in Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences in the College of Human Sciences at Florida State University. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Education & Wellness Coordinator II will develop, implement, and instruct the youth physical education program with primary responsibility at Atlanta New Century School. In addition, leadership will be given to school holiday camps and summer activities. The Coordinator will also account for the program supplies, day to day transportation and assist the Centennial Place staff liaison in quality control of all the aforementioned programs. The YMCA has been a leader in providing physical activity programs for youth for over 100 years and has developed a strategic partnership with the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation to address youth obesity. Together, the partnership is creating a sustained level of fitness for youth, thereby reducing weight and health-risk factors. Youth Fit for Life is the Metro Atlanta YMCA?s youth obesity initiative primarily focusing on cardiovascular, strength and behavioral skills. The focus of this initiative is to deliver the Youth Fit for Life protocol to Atlanta's youth through after-school sites and during school as part of the physical education instruction. Organized youth sports activities like flag football, soccer, cheerleading, t-ball, baseball, basketball, etc. are integrated into this health initiative.
The incumbent is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the comprehensive educational, wellness and licensed after school enrichment program at the branch. All decisions must be guided by Bright from the Start, the YMCA standards and the Atlanta Public Schools.
General Function: Under the direction of the Executive Director & Child Care Services Director, the Education and Wellness Program Coordinator II will assist in developing, organizing, and administering specific programs including (but not limited to): physical education, after school childcare, organized youth sports like flag football, basketball, soccer, t-ball, etc, cheerleading, summer sports camps, rock climbing, family fitness, and nutrition. In addition, the incumbent must possess the ability to develop programs to impact student achievement and programs that develop each child?s spirit, mind, and body. This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, mission VALUES and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA.
TERMS:
1. Must be able to work full-time, Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 6:30pm. May require some weekends.

OVERVIEW: Under the overall direction of the Executive Director, the Education & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the comprehensive educational, wellness and licensed after school enrichment program at neighborhood elementary schools. Together, the partnership is creating a sustained level of fitness for youth, thereby reducing weight and health-risk factors. Youth Fit for Life is the Metro Atlanta YMCA?s youth obesity initiative primarily focusing on cardiovascular, strength and behavioral skills. The focus of this initiative is to deliver the Youth Fit for Life protocol to Atlanta's youth through after-school sites and during school as part of the physical education instruction. Organized youth sports activities like flag football, soccer, cheerleading, t-ball, baseball, basketball, etc. are integrated into this health initiative.
General Function: Under the direction of the Child Care Services Director & the Youth Sports & Wellness Director, the Education and Wellness Program Coordinator I will assist in developing, organizing, and administering specific programs including (but not limited to): Daily physical fitness activities in the classroom, after school childcare, organized youth sports like flag football, basketball, soccer, t-ball, etc, cheerleading, summer sports camps, rock climbing, family fitness, and nutrition. The Department of Health & Exercise Science (HES) at Wake Forest University is seeking qualified applicants to fill a non-tenure-track position as a Visiting Assistant Professor. The position includes teaching courses in Human Physiology, Exercise Physiology and Clinical Exercise Physiology to undergraduate HES majors. The department has about 120 undergraduate majors and 14 master's level graduate students, research testing laboratories, and an indoor facility for conducting physical activity interventions. Department faculty members have active external funding for interdisciplinary health-related research and have developed excellent collaborative partnerships with the WFU School of Medicine's Departments of Medicine, Public Health Science, Geriatrics, and Pediatrics. Academic Responsibilities: teach in undergraduate physical education program that offers a B. S. in Athletic Training and a B. Graduate Assistantships
The Dept. of Exercise Science and Sport Management at the University of Tennessee,Knoxville offers graduate assistantships to qualified candidates pursuing the Ph.D. degree, with specialization in either Exercise Physiology or Biomechanics/ Sports Medicine.
Doctoral assistantships entail teaching laboratory sections of undergraduate courses, working in the faculty/staff fitness program, or teaching Physical Education classes. These assistantships include a tuition waiver and stipend ($12,000 for 50% appointment).
Other assistantships are available for students pursuing the M.S. degree and involve teaching Physical Education classes.

The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL) within the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh is accepting applications for an Exercise Physiologist to conduct military research at the remote NMRL laboratory in Little Creek, VA.
The position is Department of Defense funded and will focus on research related to identifying physiological characteristics as potential contributors to injury and improving physiological performance of Soldiers. Research will include direct testing of VO2 max, lactate threshold, anaerobic power, and body composition and assistance with measuring biomechanical, strength, and flexibility of Soldiers.
A minimum of a masters degree in Exercise Physiology/Sports Medicine or related field is required (PhD preferred). Demonstrated competency of physiological testing, testing of an athletic population, and development of periodized training programs is critical.
Salary is commensurate with experience (12 month renewable appointment) and all benefits including health insurance, retirement benefits, and tuition discounts at the University of Pittsburgh for both self and family.
